Flora Ruth Gilpin

Flora Ruth Gilpin, age 85, of Belk, died Jan. 30, 2010, at Fayette Medical Center. Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Norwood Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Lamar Cox officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery with Norwood Chapel Funeral in Fayette directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Gilpin was born March 18, 1924, in Lamar County, the daughter of the late Grady and Johnny Smith Bryant. She was a resident of the Belk community most of her life. She was employed by Westinghouse for 28 years and was a member of the Belk Free Will Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons-in-law, Billy Ray Sullivan and Ricky Belk; two grandchildren, Donna Sue Sullivan and Malinda Sullivan Boyles; one great-grandson, Jonathan Davis Sullivan; five brothers; and two sisters.

Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Sullivan and Gail Belk, both of Belk and Jimmie (Olen) Hudson of Millport; two sons, Billy Ray Gilpin of Belk and James Edd (Sheila) Gilpin of Millport; one sister, Earnestine Atkinson of Fayette; one brother, William Bryant of Tuscaloosa; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Justin Gilpin, Chuck Crowe, Dustin Crowe, David Sullivan, Eddie Campbell, Donald Gilpin,

Honorary pallbearers are employees and staff of Fayette Long Term Care Center, as well as great-grandchildren, Josh and Nick Wilson are serving in the military.
