J.E. Walker, Jr.

J.E. “Jaybird” Walker, Jr., age 86, of New Lexington, died Sept. 13, 2010, at Fayette Medical Center. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Montgomery officiating. Burial will follow in Salem Church Cemetery with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Josephine Clements Walker; his parents, John E. Walker, Sr. and Cora Gilliam Walker; and his brother, Curtis Ray Walker.

Survivors include his wife, Nora Fay Walker; his daughter, Beverly W. Jones (Joe); his son, John E. Walker, III (Peggy); his sisters, Jean W. Farmer and Sue W. Marohnic (Louis); his grandchildren, Brent Jones, Nathan Jones, John E. Walker, IV, and Tara W. Odom; six great-grandchildren; his blended family, Cindy Fox, Carol Conn, Sandra D. Davis, Richard Dyer, Dianne Dyer Haywood, and Ken Dyer; and numerous extended family, friends, and neighbors.

Mr. Walker was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He was a lifelong resident of the New Lexington community and was well-known as “Jaybird”. He has been a part of four generations of farming and operating a cotton gin. Jaybird enjoyed his friends and family, but his greatest pride in life was being called a Farmer.

Pallbearers will be John E. Walker, IV, Brent Jones, Nathan Jones, Eddie Davis, Patrick Davis, Dusty Dyer, Nick Dyer, Allen Nabors, and Larry Williamson.
