Edward N. Archie, Jr.

Retired Sergeant First Class Edward N. Archie, Jr. (Ed Jr.) was born March 3, 1939 to Mr. & Mrs. Edward N. Archie, Sr. He departed this life on January 14, 2012. He was a native and lifelong resident of Mobile, AL. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church then later united with Amity Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. H.L. Young. He Joined the U.S. Army on July 13, 1956 and retired May 31, 1977.

He met the love of his life, Yvonne James, at the age of 13 whom he later married when he was 16 years old. They were married for 52 years. He loved to fish. He was a "master" at grilling and cooking. His favorite pastime, after retiring (again) from Baldwin Trucking Company, was to relax on the back porch with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward & Lucille Archie; his wife Yvonne Archie; two brothers, Ollie and Charlie Archie, one son-in-law, Re MSGT William Butler, Jr; one daughter-in-law; Dianthia (Punkin), and one grandson, PFC Van DeJuan Davis. He leaves to cherish his memories six loving and devoted children, Allen (Juanita) Archie of Stuttgart, Germany, Yolanda Butler of Melbourne, FL, Kevin Archie of College Park, GA, Toni (Van) Davis of Fayette, AL, Edward M. Archie of Coronada, CA, and Tracy Davis (Carlton) of Mobile, AL; two brothers, Richard (Helen) Archie of Tacoma, WA and Clifton (Helen) Richardson, Sr. of Mobile, AL; two sisters, Juanita Lilly of Mobile, AL and Elaine (Fletcher) Haley of Antioch, CA; 12 grandchildren, Shaun Billingslea, MSgt Shawnte' (A.J.) Zolicoffer, Darius Archie, Tyais Tolbert, William Butler, III, Ashley Archie, Greg Davis, Jr., Adrianna Archie, Megan Archie, Courtney Davis, Brandon and Breanna Archie; 7 great-grandchildren, De'Avion Billingslea, Adriana Zolicoffer, Alexis Tolbert, Madison Archie, Zaniyah and Samantha Zolicoffer, and Tamara Tolbert; three aunts, Georgia Walker, Mary Eddings and Ruby Lee Hill; four sisters-in-law, Ruth C. (Eugene) Fritz, Annie Bell James, Martha Archie, and Ola Mae Davis; one daughter-in-law, Sheldon Archie; three brothers-in-law, Rev. Douglas (Ella) James, Ronald (Bea) Spurlock and Leroy Jones; several cousins, one devoted, Lillian A. Jordan, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, several devoted, Earlene Moore, Percy Lewis, Freddy Bradley, Clifton Dozier, Prattis and Viola Williams, Mary (Peaches) Johnson, and Quinton Robinson.

A viewing will be held Friday, January 20, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Hodge's Chapel. Visitation will be Saturday, January 21, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. until the 12:00 noon funeral hour at the Mobile Sunlight District Auditorium, Prichard , AL 36610; Rev. Horace Young, officiating. Interment will follow in Whispering Pines Cemetery.
