J.C. Fowler

Mr. J.C. Fowler Jr., age 85, of Florence, passed away Monday, May 21, 2012 at E.C.M. Hospital after a brief illness.

He was a native of Wayne County, Tennessee, a member of Rogers Chapel United Methodist Church, a member of Ironworkers Local #477, a member of Collinwood Masonic Lodge # 702 and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. After working at Reynolds for 38 years, he retired and farmed cattle and raised watermelons. He was lovingly known as the “Watermelon Man”. Since being a cook in the military he continued to delight friends with banana puddings and cakes.

Visitation will be today, May 23, 2012 from 6-9 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Thursday, May 24, 2012 at 10 a.m. in Greenview Memorial Chapel with burial in Greenview Memorial Park. Officiating will be the Rev. Ralph Mann and the Rev. Clinton Busler. Military funeral honors will be accorded at graveside by the United States Navy.

Mr. Fowler is preceded in death by his parents, John Columbus Fowler and Ella Leigh Whitten Fowler, brother, Calvin W. Fowler, and daughter-in-law, Cathy Pickens Fowler. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Clora Hipps Fowler of Florence, son, Stephen A. Fowler of Fayette AL., daughter, Emily Fowler Patterson(Chris) of Florence, grandchildren, Eric C. Patterson of Atlanta, GA., John C. Fowler of Fayette, AL., Toni P. McGinnis(Jason) of St. Louis, MO., and Anna F. Burns(Rob) of Northport, AL. and one great grandson, Drake Patterson of Florence.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Fowler’s grandchildren.
